I am Jamara Walker

My friends call me Jam. Feel free to do the same.

I’m a Fruity Pebbles-loving linguaphile born and raised in West South-Central Los Angeles.

In 2018, my self-awareness journey began, and writing became essential to making sense of it all. Sincerely, Jamara is where I cultivate my thoughts through stories in hopes that something I’ve learned might be useful to you, too.

Storytelling became my ministry long before that. In high school, my friends and I exchanged letters between classes. At the top of each one, we’d write the song of the moment, using music to translate what we couldn’t always put into words. Here, I’m doing the same.

My love for words drew me closer to music, so I began my career in entertainment at the Los Angeles cultural staple VIP Records. That experience inspired me to pursue a degree in Journalism at California State University, Long Beach.

Since 2006, I’ve supervised PR campaigns for Universal Music Group, Rap-A-Lot Records, Sony Music, Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, Universal Pictures, and Walt Disney Pictures, and worked in production for Paramount Pictures and Roku TV. Those experiences gave me a front-row seat to the power of story, not just as entertainment, but testimony.

Today, I’m focused on developing stories that explore the humanity of the communities that matter most to me.
